All our tracks get uploaded with the default title "untitled" since, as a collective, we have no straightforward way of deciding on anything! We are inviting listeners to suggest more interesting titles for our pieces. If any occur to you, please leave a little review (it's easy - see the link below) in which you suggest them. You can tell us what you think of our music at the same time. Any suggested titles we like may end up getting adopted.
File names encode recording information, as follows: "010605-d2t1x2-2130to2412.mp3" would be excerpt 2 from track 1 of minidisc 2 (running from 21:30 to 24:12 of that track) recorded during the session on 1st June 2005. Sessions are usually in two parts - we fill one disc, stop for tea, and then fill another disc.
Quite a difference from the week before - one of the least populated COTD configurations allowed for a lot more space and room for expression. Not everything works, but generally a good listen.
James Turner repeatedly claims not to be a "real" musician (initially turning up at sessions to recite his poetry), but you can hear some really expressive piano playing from him here (also some nice gurgly water noises, as in the end of track 3).
Some superchunky bass and floaty electric guitar from Keith.
Track 5 is definitely the centrepiece here - part of it got lifted for the compilation track "COTD v. ECC". The Council's grinding machines generally add texture, not too annoying - in some places they work surpringly well.
Track 6 is a little coda to the previous track.
Track 7 starts of in swirly/atonal mode, Matthew playing some tenuous acoustic bass - but it comes together when James starts reading "We stand here silent..." - ominous bass and spacey guitar join forces behind his voice quite effectively. The final track is more of the same (Matthew having got a bit more familiar with the bass fretboard at this point) minus the poetry.
